I. The Jungles from South East Asia, Central Africa and South America, are eing destroyed by chemicals, cut down and burnt at the rate of 2 square kilometers a minute. II. Loss of forest means loss of cloud cover and rain, which consequently causes a change of climate.III. It has been hoped that the cutting down of the jungle would provide more agricultural land, however, this proved false, because tropical rain-forests have only very thin soil beneath them. IV. The most serious loss is to the world's plant life so the ignorant deforestation may be as serious a threat to humanity as the atomic bomb V. A disease destroyed much of the Asian rice crop in the 1970's an only one kind of wild rice was able to resist it. VI. Clearly, this worldwide deforestation should stop; however, any movement to save forests is a sensitive political issue. Othe nations do realise the importance of their forests: Chinese have planted milion of trees.
